Someone won this argument, but they won it using methods that leave a bitter taste: pride overriding reason, a way of fighting that aims to wound rather than resolve. It can signal that you're the one who won this way, or that you're on the side that lost and walks away hurt; either way, the card asks whether this particular victory was worth the price it demanded. Not every conflict needs to end with a winner and a loser—sometimes insisting on winning is itself a way of losing.

Reversed

Reversed, the Five of Swords can swing two very different directions: either the discord has worsened, spreading wider than you realized, with gossip and dishonest behavior hurting more people than it should; or, on the gentler side, it signals reconciliation—someone asking forgiveness, an old fight finally losing the grip it had. Pay close attention to which of these two paths is actually unfolding, because the concrete actions around the situation usually reveal the answer before words do.
